cae case studies: hexagonal forming analysis
- Problem: A hollow circular pipe has to be formed into a hexagonal pipe
- The system consists of upper die, lower die and the metal sheet in between the two.
- Lower die was held fixed while upper die was given an enforced displacement.
- Both the upper and lower dies were considered rigid while sheet was considered flexible.
- Solid elements were used to model the metal sheet for accuracy in results, wile the rigid dies were modeled with shell elements.
- Large displacement and large strain options turned on
- Multi-linear Stress vs. Strain curve used.
- Spring back incorporated
